Losing an unwanted bulge is something almost everyone can relate to. When it comes to losing weight we all know the trinity; healthy exercise habits, healthy eating habits and an overall “healthy” lifestyle. But what about those tough areas, or areas that cannot be diminished with exercise and diet alone. Two of these common areas are under the chin and underarm bulge (armpit fat). These smaller areas are now easily treated with a few different technologies. Two of the most popular right now are Kybella and Cool Sculpting, and we’re going to compare the two treatments, the downtime and the overall results.
Many people, as they age, build up and store adipose tissue (i.e. fat) under their chin, creating the appearance of a double chin. This area is one of the most difficult to improve with diet and exercise alone. Your profile is an important view and investing in improving the appearance of your profile can boost your self-confidence and
self-image. The newest minimally invasive way to battle the appearance of a double chin is KYBELLA®. KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that permanently destroys fat cells under the chin, improving the appearance of your profile. KYBELLA® is administered as a series of injections to the area under the chin, destroying fat cells and producing gradual results. KYBELLA® contains a naturally occurring substance in the body, deoxycholic acid, which helps the body absorb fat cells.
In addition to the double chin area, one of the most popular “off label” uses is for the armpit area, this little area by your underarms that seems to “spill out” of EVERY bra you buy. Kybella is a great permanent option to reduce the fat in that area. This is a great treatment if you’ve lost weight but can’t seem to tone that tricky area with exercise alone. The number of treatment sessions will vary from patient to patient based on, whether you have a moderate amount of fullness, or a bit more. On Average, it takes about 2-3 weeks to see the final result.
The other extremely popular service for treating unwanted bulge is Cool Sculpting, when Cool Sculpting hit the market in 2010 there was a lot of scepticism about the treatment and results, fast forward to 2019 and you can’t turn on the radio without hearing an ad for Cool Sculpting. Cool Sculpting uses a technology called Cryolipolysis AKA fat freezing. Like Kybella, Cool Sculpting is also recommended to be done in multiple sessions to achieve optimal results. Fat cells do not “like” cold temperatures and when exposed to freezing temperatures they atrophy (die) and once that happens, your body will naturally eliminate the dead cells in 2-6 months or more, resulting in up to 20%-25% reduction of fat in a treated area. You’ll start to see changes as soon as 1-3 months post-treatment. Final results may take 6 months or more.
As always, choosing the right treatment for you should be done with the help of a medical professional. The results seen with both treatments is discretionary to the patient and their lifestyle. Both Kybella and Cool Sculpting offer “permanent” results, contingent upon the assumption that the patient doesn’t gain substantial weight after the treatment. Both treatments are also recommended in a series of multiple treatments for the best results. Days of hiding unwanted bulge are soon to be in your rearview with either treatment.
